What People Can Expect During a Fibromyalgia Flare-up

Posted in Symptoms

It is fair to say that people who have to live with the condition of fibromyalgia and the effects that accompany the disease can have a more difficult life than many people without the condition, and it is during a fibromyalgia flare up that these effects are going to be at their worst, and can have a truly debilitating effect on people.  It can also make it difficult for those who experience with the condition to carry on their duties should they have employment, especially in the case of those people who have jobs requiring physical work which can be almost impossible with the widespread pain that comes with fibromyalgia.

Symptoms That May Be Experienced

For people who experience a fibromyalgia flare up for the first time, it can often be a very disconcerting experience and the widespread muscular pain throughout the body can feel truly horrible.  Although it is fair to say that it is generally pain which will affect muscular and joints, this is only the start of what those people who experience a fibromyalgia flare up will experience, as it is a condition which will tend to vary from person to person.

For it to be truly considered to be a fibromyalgia flare up, the pain will normally be experienced in every quadrant of the body, with the muscles of the upper body and the legs all showing signs of the condition, and there will also be a number of different areas across the body that will be sensitive to the touch.  In terms of the diagnosis of the condition, it will be something which doctors will tend to consider if there has been a period of sustained instances of such pain that cannot be diagnosed using any other method, as there is no fixed test that has so far been discovered that can diagnose fibromyalgia.

As well as the problem with diagnosis, there are plenty of other symptoms which can be indicative that the pain and discomfort being experienced could well be a fibromyalgia flare up.  As well as the physical pain, those suffering with the condition will often find that sleep problems are also a big part of the condition, along with problems in terms of the normal bowel and bladder movements.  Many people will also find that their fibromyalgia flare up will lead to issues such as a numbness or experience the feeling of ‘pins and needles’ in various parts of the body.

What Can People Do To Treat The Condition?

One of the biggest problems in terms of dealing with a fibromyalgia flare up is that it is very difficult to pinpoint the cause of the condition, although for the most part physicians believe that it is something which can be associated with stress or other neurological conditions.  It is because of this that there are many people who would look to treat the condition with supplementary therapies that are likely to help deal with the stress, and often it will be the case that people will enjoy great success in coping with the symptoms simply by using a talking therapy, or even relaxation techniques such as massage and acupuncture.

However, this will only be effective in some situations, and for many people it will need a treatment to directly deal with the pain, and in terms of a fibromyalgia flare up it will often need a prescription pain relief to effectively make it possible for sufferers to deal with the problem.  This isn’t a permanent solution, but is a stop gap until the doctor can find a treatment that will help people to deal with the condition permanently.
